Starting tomorrow, Friday April 10, Fort Bragg will require that a face covering be worn by anyone entering a commissary, exchange or shoppette, or any other public area or work area facility where a minimum of six feet of social distance cannot easily be maintained
This applies to all employees and patrons, to include military personnel, dependents, civilian employees, contractors and retirees. Individuals who do not have a face covering of some type will be turned away until they are able to return with one.
Remember, a face covering does NOT need to be a mask, but can be any of a number of cloth items that cover both the nose and mouth. These can include but are not limited to bandanas, scarves, cloth, neck gaiters or “medical type” masks.
We know this is an inconvenience for many of you, but it is being implemented out of an abundance of caution. Remember, the wearing of a mask is NOT to protect you from infection, but to prevent the spread of the virus to others. These measures are meant to alleviate the risk of contamination from those without symptoms who may not know their status.

Susan McKeever I will also point out I have a deployed spouse, and there is no one else in my household who can do the shopping. So now my only choice is to go off post for necessities because I can no longer frequent the commissaries and PX!
I’m not the only one in this situation either, I understand the need for caution but this does not take everyone’s situation into account

Susan McKeever Tracy T Koch that’s very nice of you to offer, and it wouldn’t be bad to have on hand.
Anything on his head or around his face is a big no no for him though. He will freak out and tantrum, and has always turned into a traumatic experience.
But I’m not unwilling to try to see if I can work him up to it.
This is just already a stressful time, and now it seems my only options will be off post which isnt right when I live on post you know.

Susan McKeever Jiselle A MenHern yes, I stopped using carts weeks ago and have him in his stroller instead. My daughter has to hold the handle with me as we walk so she stays close. She’s 9 so she understands what’s happening, he doesn’t you know. But I’ve changed little things to try to keep us safer.
And I know theres instacart, and delivery, and pick up but sometimes going in a store can’t be avoided, and I feel like people aren’t looking at the whole picture you know

Claudia Suarez Jason Walden you don’t have to be this rude to someone, if you read the other comments and get to understand her situation better you might be able to support our community and be a part of the solution by providing suggestions around known obstacles. You’re not doing anyone any justice by belittling others.

Jer Sho Maybe I am dumb. I read this as if we can maintain six feet it is not needed. From what I heard at the commissary today, they will require all patrons to wear a mask. Get rid of the or places where six feet can’t be maintained, and replace it with “and”. It should be made clear that all patrons will wear a mask when shopping on post.

My experience is from being a soldier on a tight budget with a family to take care of. I’ve been stationed in Alaska, NC, and also have gone to other bases like CA, Germany, Italy and all sorts of F.O.B.s all over Afghanistan. I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve used AAFES other than morning coffee or lunch.

Gary Covey Here’s a PBS aired episode called “Influenza:1918”. Perhaps it might shed some light on the subject.

Tim Murphy My daughter made FREE masks for anyone that needs one, sent me a message and I’ll let you know the address if you want to pick one up. They’re individually wrapped in plastic to try to prevent cross contamination. They’re located by the road with a sign. I’ll delete this comment once they’re gone.

Kathleen Walsh Can you clarify as my spouse is telling me you DO NOT have to wear a face mask at any of the above places you mentioned. He states that there will be 6 feet in these places. Second, he states this is poorly written and does not specifically STATE (as the punctuation is not there) that “YOU MUST WEAR A MASK in above mentioned places. I get it! That PHD in education BLOCKS his brain from seeing and understanding what is meant. PLEASE, send me the DEFINITIVE answer to my question. I don’t need any one else to comment on this. I KNOW I AM CORRECT. He NEEDS to see the DEFINITIVE YES “MASKS” at these places if you shop there!

Susan McKeever I can use whatever we have handy for myself and my daughter, but there is no way around my son. He refuses anything on his head or around his face. It’s not realistic, families in these situations are not be taken into account.

Nadine Gallegos-Haskin Start working at home with trying to get them acclimated.
You don’t need to buy anything special just use what you have or use the delivery services available or Walmart pick up, which is available at a lot of locations and you don’t have to get out of your car.
Unfortunately as parents we have to work with lots of not ideal situations and get creative. We’ve all been there

Courtney Ewing Susan McKeever i literally am in the same boat I messaged this page and contacted my husbands commander to see if I could get a letter or something allowing him inside. My husband is deployed and I have no other choice either. But our son is four with autism and is totally against anything on his face.

Courtney Ewing Carol Bishop they are definitely going to have some exceptions to prevent a lot of us from having to shop off base where you are more likely to get it. My son would have a complete panic attack if I put a mask on him or any kind of face covering.. he’s four with autism
sorry I strongly disagree with your argument.. And it’s very simple for people who aren’t in the same boat to throw ideas at people in these situations..

Susan McKeever Courtney Ewing girl I get it! There’s so many of us in the same boat, there’s going to have to be some consideration implemented for special needs kids when things like this are put in place.
I understand the reasons and precautions, but it’s not realistic for everyone as a whole.
I have no doubt we will rally and figure something out! Keep you head up, I’m right there with you in this struggle❤

Courtney Ewing Carol Bishop making it aware to the people setting these rules that not everyone can accomplish what they are asking, is not giving excuses. Trust me, If you met me I’m not one who cares for anyone who cries about having to adapt to the simplest situations. But maybe the people who thought this up don’t think about children, or children with very severe sensory issues. It has to be said. We are all obviously using the upmost safety we can while in the store. I’ve already been talking to people who can get letters from EFMP, or your commanders regarding this issue. They can’t legally turn people away at the door because their disabled children can’t wear a face covering. Especially when 70% of this base right now is spouseless. The base has to realize that. And they won’t unless it’s said. Which is frankly what myself and several others are doing.
It’s no excuse. It’s simply notifying that this isn’t a feasible solution.
